In 1970, he was transferred to AECL Engineering Co., Sheridan Park near Toronto, Ont. to form a new branch of Fuel Engineering. In 1980 he became the R & D program manager for all the combined AECL/Ontario Hydro R&D programs and later CANDU Owners Group (COG) R&D programs. He was a Associate Fellow of the Royal Aeronautical Society, a Professional Engineer of Ontario, a director of the Canadian Aviation Historical Society, a member of AECL CANDU Retirees Association, Federal Superannuates National Association and a member of CANDU Origins and Evolution working group. He retired in January 1987.

  17. CANDU Advanced Plutonium Burner - The Canadian Response to the ALWR, by A.R. Dastur and A.C. Mao, AECL, 1989-05-01. Doc type: Paper.
Summary: As published in the Canadian Nuclear Society Bulletin Vol. 10, No. 3, 1989 with the kind permission of the CNS: It is demonstrated that the prescnt CANDU design concept has potential for increased conversion and resource utilization compared with other reactor concepts. Discussed here is a CANDU based concept thau utilizes energy produced by subcritical multiplication in a fertile region designed for accelerated plutonium production is presented. Its feasibility is based on incorporating the channels with fertile material into the primary heal transport circuit. Calculations with multigroup transport codes predict very high fuel utilization due to the production and burnup of fissile plutonium in the fertile region.

  27. The Essential CANDU, by Wm.J. Garland, Editor-in-Chief, UNENE, 2015-01-01. Doc type: Book.
Summary: The Essential CANDU is a textbook about nuclear science and engineering pertaining to CANDU reactors using CANDU as the reference design. This distinguishes it from comparable textbooks based on PWR reactors. This is not a product description of CANDU per se. The book emphasizes theory over other aspects of nuclear science. This is a textbook about CANDU nuclear reactor and power plant engineering, not just the reactor physics of the core.

Summary: This pictorial record of Canada's power reactor fuel bundles was prepared to historically record the evolution of the power reactor fuel over the years. No one report issued over the years has been able to describe in detail the various changes that these pictures portray. It should be noted that the record does not include WR-1 type fuel or special irradiation of assemblies. "A picture speaks a thousand words". Full resolution versions of the images contained in this document can be found in the Image Library of CANTEACH web site http://canteach.candu.org listed under the System Index (SI) 37000 - Fuel.
